DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS
Mercy Health Clinic (Mercy) is a nonprofit, non-sectarian, healthcare provider serving more than 1,850 uninsured, low-income residents of Montgomery County, Maryland annually. Mercy was founded as an all-volunteer, free health clinic in October of 2000 and we have significantly transformed over the past three years while retaining the spirit of our founding principles. With a small and dedicated staff and more than 150 volunteers, including more than 45 volunteer doctors, Mercy is committed to continually seeking ways to improve and expand the essential and often lifesaving healthcare we provide to our most vulnerable neighbors.

Mercy Health Clinic is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic fundraising professional to work closely with the Executive Director (ED) to establish and achieve the strategic fundraising goals of the organization. The successful candidate for this role will be a person who thrives on opportunity and has the desire to demonstrate their creativity, skills and abilities. The Director of Development and Communications oversees and implements the fundraising and communications plan and activities for Mercy Health Clinic. Mercy strives to implement all appropriate Development best practices.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design/revise and implement the Strategic Development and Communications Plan (with Quarterly benchmarks) focused on goals to increase revenue, collaborative partnerships, general and social media audiences and donors.
• Ensure that Mercy is maximizing the use of all current fundraising and communications best practices and develop strategies to correct any identified deficiencies.
• Develop and implement strategies to grow the individual donor base.
• Supervise and guide support staff in carrying out all fundraising and communications activities.
• Oversee major events working with the Development support staff to ensure all event-based goals are met.
• Oversee management of the Giftworks database and analyze data to develop a strategy for targeted/segmented donor outreach and growth.
• Directly solicit and/or direct staff in soliciting in-kind donations such as silent auction items, and general in-kind needs.
• Draft direct mail solicitation letters and ongoing e-appeals.
• Speak directly to individual donors and groups in various settings to communicate our mission and vision and to solicit donations.
• Attend community outreach events, networking events and workplace giving campaign events.
• Research prospective grants and foundations and manage the grant-tracking calendar.
• Prepare and submit grant applications, in concert with Executive Director.
• Oversee grant reporting and grants management ensuring that all deadlines are met through accurate and high quality submissions.
• Update and maintain a comprehensive communications and outreach plan that utilizes and integrates various forms of active and static online communications with traditional materials/processes and “word of mouth” campaign techniques.
• In concert with the Executive Director, conduct tours of the Clinic for new donors, current donors, and prospective donors.
• Oversee production of print and e-newsletters.
• Oversee and approve website content and social media postings.
• Oversee email communications to donors, utilizing Vertical Response or other marketing tools.
• Oversee public relations – incl. review of brochures and all Mercy collaterals, media outreach, etc.
• Work with Medical staff to develop patient communications materials.
• Develop the Annual Report.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters and/or professional certifications desirable.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work well under deadlines both individually and in a team environment.
• Experience with social media and web-based fundraising.
• Exhibits a high degree of professionalism and is comfortable with public speaking.
• Demonstrated history of successful fundraising including grants acquisition, donor outreach, major donor cultivation, and web-based fundraising methods.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, WordPress or other website editing tools, and email systems.
• A strong entrepreneurial spirit and track record of program growth and development.
• Familiarity with database systems, data entry best practices and evaluating reports.
• 4+ years of experience in fundraising and communications.
• 2+ years of experience managing and motivating employees.

COMPENSATION:
Full-Time: $60,000–$80,000
