  • Rebuilding Together Montgomery County works to maximize our investment in the community by partnering with other nonprofits to repair community spaces such as shelters, permanent housing structures, and donation centers.
  • Art Connection in the Capital Region works to expand access to original visual art through public exhibitions and provide opportunities for artists to have their work permanently placed in nonprofits.

FIRM for Program Directors & Department Leaders

FIRM for Program Directors is a one-day workshop that provides program directors and department leaders with a deeper understanding of the financial processes, planning, and decision making that support strong program and organizational sustainability. Participants will learn:

  • program level financial modeling,
  • strategic budgeting, and
  • financial reporting to build confidence and competence in making decisions that balance assets and outcomes (aka money and mission) for individual programs and the organization at large.

This daylong workshop prepares program directors to make informed contributions to the nonprofit budgeting process and provides future leaders with a framework for thinking about nonprofit accountability and sustainability. Nonprofits are encouraged to send a team of program managers/directors to be trained together.

The fee for Nonprofit Montgomery members is $20 (up to a group of 4 people). The fee for non-members is $270 per organization.

Join us for a Nonprofit Impact Series on the Matrix Map. The Matrix Map is a helpful tool for assessing both the financial and mission impact of programs. The Matrix Map looks at your program mix and helps you think about how programs contribute (or don’t contribute) to the long term sustainability of an organization.

Maryland EXCELS Information Session in Spanish

The Latino Child Care Association (LCAM) will be hosting an information session in Spanish about the Maryland EXCELS Program with personnel from the MSDE December 7 at 7:00pm via Zoom. The purpose is to deliver and gather information from Spanish-speaking family child care providers in the state. LCAM is working with the MSDE to plan free statewide workshops in Spanish next year to promote participation in the program and to support providers who are working towards moving up in the quality rating system. Click here to register.

All nonprofits can benefit from this deep dive into understanding and strengthening your financial model, particularly now in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on programs and organizations. As organizational leaders navigate dynamic changes and pressures to adapt how their organizations operate, understanding the role of financial leadership and strong fiduciary capacity becomes more critical to success and longer term sustainability.

FIRM provides tools, models, and frameworks that strengthen your ability to identify, manage, and assess the assets you put to work to achieve organizational outcomes.

Who should attend: Nonprofits attend as a team of up to four people including the Executive Director, Finance Director/CFO, Board Member, and Program Director.

The results: Better connection between your mission and internal structure, increased clarity on outcomes and the assets needed to support them; greater strategic budgeting and reporting process; and improved financial conversations across the organization (board and staff).
