The Finance Director (CFO or COO) plays a unique role in a nonprofit organization. According to a recent survey of finance directors, challenges include: wearing many hats–the Finance Director might also be in charge of HR, IT, and more; reporting to both the Executive Director and the Board of Directors; managing cash flow in cash-challenged organizations; multiple grant requirements; and the need to be both strategic and involved in day to day operations.

Finance Directors are invited to join colleagues for discussion, information sharing and support for this unique, challenging and satisfying role. Tables for Ten meet three times for candid, confidential facilitated conversations and problem solving.

Advocacy Training Through the University of Maryland

The University of Maryland is hosting an advocacy training Institute. At the Institute, nationally recognized policy advocates will help participants navigate the federal policy-making and funding process and link that process to advocacy opportunities at the federal, state and local levels and create and deliver effective messages for policymakers and the public. The Institute’s inaugural in-person training program will take place September 23-25, 2018. The training will be conducted near the University of Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C. Click here for more information.

Congratulations to Our Recent MORE Graduates

Earlier this month we held our Spring session of MORE as part of our work building the capacity of nonprofits. More than 40 staff from 13 member organizations learned about the six steps of evaluation and began putting evaluation plans in place. The MORE experience continues with a consultation with an evaluation consultant and a follow up session in May. We will be offering another session of MORE this fall.
