Consumer Health Foundation’s Annual Meeting
CHF’s Annual Meeting will be featuring the speaker Ibram X. Kendi, a New York Times bestselling author and the founding director of the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University. The event will be on April 2 from 1-4:30pm at The True Reformer Building.
The Renters Alliance’s Regional Public Information Meeting
The Renters Alliance will hold a community meeting to update renters on their rights, issues and challenges, and importance of the Census. It will be on March 7 from 10:30am to 12:30pm at the Silver Spring Civic Center. RSVP here.

Registration Now Open for FIRM for Program Directors 
Tuesday, April 21 from 8:30am to 5pm

FIRM for Program Directors is a day-long workshop that introduces program directors to important financial concepts, such as understanding how a budget is created and understanding indirect costs.

It prepares program directors to make informed contributions to the nonprofit budgeting process and provides future leaders with a basic understanding of nonprofit accountability and sustainability.

When: Tuesday, April 21, 2020 8:30am to 5pm

Feedback we received about FIRM for Program Directors: 
It has opened my eyes to the relationship between assets and outcomes. I will approach programs discussion making from now on with a new lease.

I was able to see a different point of view, the program director’s pov. I was able to understand what I need to do to make it easier for program directors to view the budget. 

I now understand how to better incorporate program planning/budgeting into overall organizational goals.

Fire at Identity, Inc. – What you can do
A fire broke out in the basement of Identity’s iconic Pink House recently. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the building suffered some structural damage and most of the equipment and supplies stored inside the building were either damaged or destroyed, including all of the recreation equipment. Identity is accepting donations and gifts from their Fire Recovery Gift Registry.

The Ignatian Volunteer Corps is a Service Corps of seniors – retirees who commit to serving two days per week, ten months per year with an established social service agency that works with people experiencing poverty. IVC is interested in identifying new partner agencies in the County that would be interested in serving as a host site for  volunteers. There is a partnership fee of $3000 per year that agencies pay to IVC in exchange for identifying a committed, seasoned retired professional to join their team. Montgomery County Census 2020

Census 2020 is almost here! Invitations to respond to the first ever online Census will arrive in homes starting on March 12. Nonprofits have an important role to play by reaching vulnerable and often-undercounted communities. If your organization needs support in the Census, please reach out to the County Census office for fact sheets, handouts, posters, pencils, social media posts, videos, mapping tools, and more to support nonprofit outreach.  You can also connect with the County’s regional census committees for help.

What our members are doing: 

  • Gaithersburg Help is attaching census flyers in English and Spanish to every bag of food they give away, with a note about why completing the Census is important.
  • MCAEL is encouraging ESOL and English Language Learners nonprofits to build lesson plans around the Census to encourage one-on-one conversations.
  • Community Reach is holding outreach events on April 2 and 3 at three senior apartment buildings. They will serve lunch and bring tablets to help seniors complete the census online.
