2016 was a busy year for Nonprofit Montgomery. We successfully advocated to the County Council for an increase to base budget contracts, and an increase to the community grants pool. In the coming year we’ll continue to focus on important issues that affect our sector, like minimum wage and impact of a changing federal administration.

We convened advisory committee meetings to the Department of Health and Human Services for two major issues: “rounding pennies” and single user accounts—two issues that have a big financial impact for many of us.

We strengthened the County’s nonprofit leadership with capacity building programs like FIRM and Tables for Ten and introduced MORE (Metrics and Outcomes for Responsible Evaluation) training to great success. Watch for opportunities to register for FIRM and MORE spring sessions. We convened nonprofits to talk about workforce issues and to educate about the impact of proposed FLSA rules. Seventy-eight nonprofit leaders participated in our forums with key county public and elected officials.

We increased the visibility of the sector by serving as the backbone organization of Montgomery Moving Forward. MMF is a collective impact initiative that brings together leadership of all sectors of the community to address complex community problems.

As 2017 approaches, we look forward to continuing this work together. Warmest wishes for a happy, safe, and healthy holiday season!
