Program & Membership Director Job Description (Full Time)

Nonprofit Montgomery seeks an entrepreneurial Program & Membership Director to lead the organization’s capacity building programs and help steward and engage our membership. Nonprofit Montgomery is the alliance of nonprofit organizations serving Montgomery County.  We strengthen nonprofits through capacity building programs, advocate for the sector and catalyze action to solve the community’s toughest challenges. 

Nonprofit Montgomery includes almost 200 members of all sizes and missions that provide a broad array of services: food, clothing, shelter, counseling, medical, dental and mental health care, substance abuse treatment, job training, legal services, after-school programming and educational support, as well as programs in the arts and those that work for a healthy environment. We serve an increasingly diverse county that is home to growing numbers of neighbors in need.

The Program & Membership Director will manage the organization’s capacity building programs, and help steward and engage members. The position will report to Nonprofit Montgomery’s Executive Director and be part of a small, dedicated and talented team of staff and consultants working closely with Board and other members to plan and implement the organization’s work.

KEY DUTIES:

  • Manage Nonprofit Montgomery’s capacity building programs and advocacy events for nonprofits. This includes all marketing, communications, recruitment, faculty oversight, logistics, and reporting for this program.
  • Develop new programs and partnerships and innovate existing programs to support program delivery that builds capacity in the nonprofit sector.
  • Ensure a system for evaluating, tracking metrics and continually improving programs.
  • Work with Nonprofit Montgomery’s Executive Director and Board to provide membership outreach and recruitment, and help define and be responsive to member needs.
  • Collaborate with Montgomery Moving Forward (an initiative of Nonprofit Montgomery) on projects, development initiatives, and duties as assigned by MMF Project Director. 
  • Oversee all activities related to planning, implementation, and evaluation of membership initiatives to maximize results.  
  • Assist with development and advocacy activities, including writing, policy analysis, position statements, etc. for both Nonprofit Montgomery and Montgomery Moving Forward.
  • Oversee the membership database, ensuring that information is accurate and up to date and supports programs and generating relevant reports.
  • Represent the organization at meetings and events.
  • Ability to use an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens through all aspects of  program planning and membership.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The strongest candidates will exhibit the following competencies and experiences:

  • Experience and demonstrated success in program development, implementation and evaluation.
  • 7-10 years in the nonprofit sector and an understanding of issues related to the sector and the people it serves, including a commitment to using an equity lens to evaluate all work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong presentation skills.
  • Technologically savvy including expertise with membership databases, Google suite, Zoom (back end functionality).
  • Ability to collaborate, work in teams and juggle multiple deliverables.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that include the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Familiarity with the culture of Montgomery County preferred.
  • This position requires flexible availability including early mornings and/or evenings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to remain in a stationary position 60% of the time. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access printers, file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. In accordance with public health guidance, and if in-person operations resumes, the employee is required to set up for meetings, programs, and events at various locations within the region.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY:
The person in this position frequently communicates (via email, phone, video chat, in-person) with staff, members, board members, local government, and the community and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION: 4-year degree or equivalent

SALARY & BENEFITS:
Annual salary of low 60s to low 70s to commensurate with experience.
